Learn More about Family Music for Babies!
Family Music for Babies (newborn to 18 months) – 30 minute classes
Designed for parents and their babies to take together, these weekly classes help you learn how to play musically with your baby. Each class features bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, and other fun activities for the two of you. When you go home, you can continue the fun with a superb recording (CD with digital code) recorded by a fine children’s choir and outstanding instrumentalists. Using your parent guidebook along with rhythm sticks, a Musikgarten rattle, and colorful scarf will give you both hours of enjoyment.
Musikgarten’s musical play for babies increases your baby’s curiosity about music. develops listening skills and a sense of beat, establishes a foundation for singing and musical thought, and helps you form a closer bond with your baby.
Music and Movement for Children with the Musikgarten Curriculum
Musikgarten:
* Is a music and movement program for children from Birth – 9 years old.
* Was designed using the latest research on child development and the research on the benefits of music to the development of the whole child

Family Music for Toddlers (16 months to 3 1/2 years) – 30 minute class
These weekly classes are action-filled for toddlers—full of energy, often on the move, always exploring and learning—and their parents. Together you’ll sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments, all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement through four wonder-filled semesters.
Each lesson features movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks, jingles, rattles, drums, and resonator bars.
Additionally, you’ll receive a wonderful CD with digital code and a parent activity book. You also have option of an instrument set that includes sticks, jingles, finger cymbals and scarves to use at home for more fun time together.

Cycle of Seasons (3-5 years) – 60 minute class
Celebrate your preschooler’s growing independence and love of the outdoors with activities involving the four seasons in The Cycle of Seasons. Developed to build attention and self-expression, activities include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement, and storytelling. The Cycle of Seasons nurtures your growing child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within a musical context.
Fun family packets including wonderful music recordings (CD with digital code) are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process.

Music Makers: At Home (4-7 years, prerequisite Cycle of Seasons if age 4-5 years) – 60 minute classes
Musikgarten offers two sequential programs Music Makers: At Home in the World, and Music Makers: Around the World. Your child is now ready for this two-year learning program that includes singing, creative as well as structured movement, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training and guided listening. This developmentally sound approach to music literacy builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self expression. The children start to work with written musical patterns as well.
Music Makers: At Home (4-7 years, with pre-requisite of Cycle of Seasons class if age 4-5 years)
In the units for Music Makers: At Home, your child will be engaged in activities that establish a solid music-making foundation. This year focuses on your child’s fascination with nature and develops a love of instruments. Your child will be introduced to the sounds of orchestral instruments individually, and then in the context of an ensemble. Such a listening foundation will lead to long-term success with music reading in future classes.

Music Makers
Musikgarten offers two sequential programs Music Makers: At Home, and Music Makers: Around the World. Your child is now ready for this two-year learning program that includes singing, creative as well as structured movement, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training and guided listening. This developmentally sound approach to music literacy builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self expression. The children start to work with written musical patterns, too.
Music Makers: Around the World (5-8 years, prerequisite Music Makers At Home)
In the units for Year 2, your child will explore the music of the British Isles, Germany, and our own Amerindian and African-American music heritage. Your child will learn songs, dances, stories, rituals, and customs of these cultures to help him/her feel and understand others around the world. At the end of this two-year program, your child will have a comprehensive music foundation which is an excellent preparation for the next step, Music Makers: At the Keyboard OR Private Lessons.

Meet our Teacher:

Jean Dettweiler joins MUSE as a music instructor after 40 years of experience in teaching – the last 25 years as a private piano, voice, and guitar teacher, as well as a certified and licensed Musikgarten teacher.
Jean graduated from Preble High School in Green Bay where she performed with the award winning Swing Choir under the direction of Miss Betty Dunne. She graduated from Grinnell College with a B.A. in Biology and was a serious student in the select 20 member touring vocal group called The Singers under the direction of Dr. James Fudge. Piano and voice training were continued through college under direction of JoAnne Ritacca, a pianist/performer/instructor; and Leslie Morgan, a vocalist/performer/instructor.
Jean taught in the public schools for 10 years, the first five years in Green Bay Public Schools, and the second five years in the South Washington School District in Minnesota, where she moved to work on her master’s degree at the University of MN.
In 2001, Jean founded and directed the Willow Pond Farm – Center for the Arts and Sciences in North Branch, MN. As well as all of the administrative duties, she taught full time at the cooperative school, designing and implementing curriculum as well as teaching science, K-10th grade; children’s choir; Musikgarten classes 0-8 years; musical theater; and much more. She started her private music studio in 2004 and has taught individuals in beginning to intermediate piano and voice, as well as beginning guitar.
Her strength lies in her ability to connect with children and help them to find their musical talent with joy and confidence. Jean finds the cross-section of children, music, and nature to be extremely rewarding and motivating.
