Kent Moraga
With over five decades of experience on the horn, Kent Moraga brings a wealth of musical knowledge and passion for brass performance and instruction. Beginning studies in 1970 under Paul Luhring and later refining his technique with Dr. Gail Lewis at Butler University, Kent has performed in a wide range of ensembles spanning concert bands, orchestras, pit and dance bands, chamber groups, and solo work. After a career in industry, he returned to the arts with renewed dedication, performing locally, nationally, and internationally—including a recent appearance as Horn 1 with the D-Day 80 Wind Band in Normandy, France.
In addition to performance, Kent is dedicated to teaching both youth and adults. Drawing on professional training as a corporate trainer, as well as years of homeschooling two children through high school, he brings a patient, structured, and supportive approach to music education. Whether guiding a beginner trumpet or bugle student, or helping an advancing horn player refine technique and musicianship, Kent emphasizes fundamentals, ensemble skills, and the joy of making music together.

Since 2016, Kent has regularly attended the Adult Symphonic Camp at Interlochen, MI.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
In industry, Kent was trained to be a trainer, and developed and delivered training to operators, engineers, and auditors.
As a parent, he homeschooled two children through 12th grade with his wife, and his kids went on to obtain degrees in engineering (cum laude) and nursing (summa cum laude).
At the 2023 Birch Creek Adult Band Camp, Kent was section leader for the horn section, where he led the group in warmups that he had prepared and coached the section through improving intonation and playing difficult passages correctly.
