Learn to play the ukulele in six weeks!
Designed for beginning young musicians, this six-week class introduces students to ukulele fundamentals through playing music together. Students will learn basic chords, strumming techniques, rhythm, and ensemble skills while working toward playing 3–5 complete songs by the end of the session.
No previous musical experience is necessary.
Don’t have a ukulele? No problem! Rental instruments are available through MUSE.
In six weeks, your child can go from beginner to playing complete songs with a group of young musicians.

Program Goal
This six-week class will give young beginning musicians an approachable and social introduction to the ukulele.
Rather than focusing only on individual technique, students will learn how to make music together, developing basic instrumental skills while gaining confidence playing as a group.
What Students Will Learn
Students will start with the basics and build their skills through familiar, fun songs.
- Beginning chords: F, C7, C, and G7
- Chord changes: Practice moving comfortably between chords
- Strumming: Explore basic strumming patterns and rhythms
- Playing together: Learn to keep a steady beat and make music as a group
- Singing & playing: Build confidence accompanying familiar songs
- Growing skills: Additional chords and techniques may be introduced as students progress

Repertoire may evolve based on the interests and progress of the group—the goal is to give students an approachable introduction to the ukulele while having fun making music together!
Final repertoire and specific learning outcomes will be confirmed nearer the class start date.

Tuition: $90 for the full session ($15/class)
Enrollment: Minimum 3 students • Maximum 10 students

Introducing Teacher Mark:
Mark Scherer brings a lifetime of music and education to MUSE! With a degree in music education and decades of experience teaching elementary and middle school students, Mark has always made music an integral part of his classroom and community. After discovering the Ukulele Society of Door County eight years ago, he developed a passion for the instrument and the friendships it inspires. Having taught ukulele at the Boys & Girls Club and privately to adults, Mark is excited to introduce young musicians to the joy of playing, singing, and making music together—clunkers, silly songs, and all!
